San Francisco is a colourful, eclectic city that is always so much fun to visit. It has the perfect mix of cool galleries, amazing restaurants and interesting places to see and photograph. I really enjoyed capturing this trip because San Francisco has such an unique style. We went all over the city, exploring different neighbourhoods and visiting iconic spots like the Painted Ladies, Haight Ashbury and the Golden Gate Bridge.
Jonathon was attending the Google I/O conference for the first few days of our trip, so I stayed in the Marina District with my friend Erin (check out her blog Wolf and Stag) before spending the weekend downtown. San Francisco was a really awesome city to research, and my list of recommendations is quite long! To start, I’ve rounded up a few of my favourite colourful photos from this trip and the locations so you can snap the perfect ‘gram next time you’re in this wonderful city.
The 16th Ave Tiled Steps
Located in Golden Gate Heights are the beautiful 16th Ave Tiled Steps. This is such a fun and colourful spot to take photos and see spectacular views of the city. Be warned, San Francisco is filled with hills and this particular spot is up high. You’ll probably want to hop in an Uber to get here. Around the corner you’ll find a second set of tiled stairs called Hidden Garden Steps. Since they’re more tucked away, it will be a lot less busy and easier to get a photo with no one in the background.
Pretty Coffees & Cafes
After completing the 16th Ave Tiled stairs, a stop by Home Cafe for a Birthday Cake latte is a must! This picture perfect cup of java tasted like a vanilla latte with sprinkles. Isn’t it darling? We had so many yummy coffees and baked goods while visiting San Francisco. I have such a long list of delicious and instagramable cafes to recommend. Stay tuned for my next post dedicated to my favourites. The Lyon Street Steps
For a beautiful view of San Francisco overlooking the Marina District, head to the Lyon Street Stairs. At the base of the steps you’ll find the house featured in The Princess Diaries, along with other gorgeous Victorian style homes. Be sure to wear good walking shoes so you can make your way up to the top. The views of the Presidio Forest, ocean and city are stunning. From here, it’s a lovely walk into the Lower Pacific Heights and The Filmore District.
The Victorian Houses
The most famous houses in San Francisco are the row of pastel homes called the Painted Ladies, near Alamo Square Park. These are fun to see, but there are so many delightful Victorian style houses all over the city. Marina District, Pacific Heights, North Beach; walk around any of these neighbourhoods and you’re bound to see lots of beautiful homes. Flowers in San Francisco
There are so many cute flower shops in San Francisco. The Bud Stop in the Marina District has a delightful array of blooms, as does Ampersand in the Mission District. There’s also a farmer’s market at The Ferry Building where you’ll find lots of seasonal flowers.
