Fall 2015 at Holt RenfrewFall is a fashion girl’s favourite season. Boots, scarves, layers and fur – the options are endless! We caught up with Lisa Tant, Divisional Vice President of Exclusive Services for Holt Renfrew to hear her take on this season’s fashion trends.

What’s the biggest trend you’re seeing right now?
The biggest trend I’m seeing is instagram. For so long, fashion people would dress head to to in black. It’s chic, sophisticated and comfortable, but it doesn’t photograph very well. When I would attend runway shows, and look at the photos afterwards, I often would think, ‘Where is the detail? This doesn’t look very exciting as it did in person.’

Now, everyone is so focused on selfies, promoting their own fashion and having fun with it on social media, it’s now being reflected in the collections. We’re seeing a lot of patterns, colour and textures. It’s really changing fashion, and the whole industry.

For Fall, we’re talking about The New Romantic, Go Graphic, Keep it Loose, Knits and Winter White. A lot of the classic pieces we’re seeing are what I like to call ‘Classics with a Twist.’ This isn’t a time where fashion is basic, boring or even timeless. It’s about making a personal statement.

Fall is such a great fashion season. On a practical note, I always look for a good coat. We really wear our coats in Canada. This season, I’m looking for something that creates more of a statement, over a basic black coat.

What about menswear trends?
It’s great to see mens fashion become so much more experimental. We’re really seeing a change in menswear at the moment. Men aren’t shying away from wearing Fendi monster sneakers, bright colours and prints.

What are some of your favourite Canadian Designer’s in store?
I love our Canadian designers, and I am so fortunate I am able to call so many of them my friends. Holts is home to 19 Canadian brands. My favourites include Tanya Taylor, who is now based in New York and Steven Tai, who is now based in London. I work a lot with Greta Constantene, and we just introduced Michael Kale to our customers.

What’s your go to brand at Holt Renfrew?
I’m not very loyal to one designer, but I love Dries Van Noten. This Fall season Holt Renfrew is proud to introduce 50 new designers to Canada, including Cédric Charlier for womenswear, Mansur Gavriel for handbags, Rene Caovilla for footwear, Haider Ackermann and Thom Browne for menswear.

This fall the nostalgia of Victorian-inspired pieces entranced designers. Key pieces, like soft, sweeping blouses, knee-high boots, feminine Mary Jane flats and tailored jackets all helped to highlight the trend’s dreamy persona. Designers also took fall favourites — like winter white, fur and thick knits — to the next level, elevating each cold-weather staple to runway-worthy status.
