From the Editor’s Desk: Spring Beauty Launches

Spring Beauty 2020 25In the first part of the year, I attended many media event, dinners and meetings in anticipation of Spring beauty deliveries. These were all hosted by brands I have long standing relationships with, whose new launches are always exciting to learn about. Going to brand presentations is one of my favourite parts about being an editor, and I am really missing seeing all my PR friends and colleagues.

April is not what we expected. All our plans went out the window as we switched gears to do our part to #flattenthecurve. While many things in my agenda have been crossed out, some content I planned still remains. This beauty story is one of them. As we settle into our fourth week at home, self care favourites paired with beautiful blooms felt like the content I want to share right now. I’ve rounded up my favourite Spring Beauty launches for 2020, all of which I’ve tried, tested and are available for delivery online.
Valmont Fragrances Jazzy TwistValmont Fragrances
Palazzo Nobile Collection
La Maison Valmont is a heritage brand from Venice, Italy. They are known for creating luxury skincare, along with some of the world’s best perfumes. I received a very impressive PR package for their latest scents for Spring, including Casanova 2161 from their Palazzo Nobile Collection. This is one of six floral fragrances, each one unique and refreshing. Casanova 2161 is a unisex fragrance with woody and faint smoky notes, yet it is still very light in scent.

Collezione Private
The second fragrance Jazzy Twist is an eau de parfum from the Collezione Private collection and my favourite from the line. It contains a beautiful combination of magnolia and tuberose, mingled with an essence of patchouli, vanilla extract and tonka beans. The bottles for both these collections of fragrances are works of art in themselves that have been exquisitely crafted at the Valmont workshop in Venice. The Body Shop Hemp

The Body Shop
I am a long time fan of The Body Shop. I first discovered the brand when I was 13, on a trip to London, England with my family. The following year The Body Shop opened it’s first location in Cape Town, South Africa (my hometown) and I would save my pocket money for something delicious every month.

You may have noticed a change in The Body Shop in the last couple of years. They are going back to their roots and revitalizing many products and scents we’ve all known and loved for years. One of these being the hemp collection.

Hemp Hand Cream
Their best selling Hemp Hand Protector will relieve your dry hands that have been washed many, many times. It contains Community Trade hemp seed oil, and the thicker consistency helps soothe and protect the driest of skins. I’ve been using the little tube every day, and it’s only $2, and the full size retails for $10.

Hemp Hydrating & Protecting Shower Oil
The Body Shop’s Hemp Shower Oil is so silky soft. When you add water to the oil, it creates a gentle foam. This hydrates and helps to protect your skin’s natural moisture barrier. I’ve never used a product like this before, and I love it! Like the hand cream, it’s enriched with hemp seed oil leaving your skin smooth, soft and hydrated.Spring Beauty 2020 Editors DeskL’Oreal Paris
8 Second Wonder Water

This is one of my favourite hair product discoveries. I’ve been using Wonder Water for the last month and it’s fantastic to tame flyaways. L’Oreal’s 8 Second Wonder Water uses lamellar technology. Think of this as creating a suit of armour to protect your hair. The liquid formula smooths the hair surface to make it soft and detangled, without weighing your hair down.

After washing your hair, apply the rinse out formula, which begins to work in just 8 seconds. I saw a difference in my hair from the first use, and was pleasantly surprised to see its available at drugstores for $12.99!

AG Hair Care
Vancouver based AG Hair Care creates fantastic products, all manufactured locally. I’m a big fan of their Natural collection, formulated with over 96% plant-based and naturally-derived ingredients.

Dry Lift
Dry Lift instantly adds grit, volume and texture to your hair. It’s created with kaolin clay and volcanic ash to absorb excess oil. It also smells delicious thanks to their exclusive blend of rosemary, lemon, lime, geranium and lavender essential oils. This product is ideal for getting an extra day or two out of a good hair moment.

Glow Natural
We all want shiny hair, and Glow Natural is a fantastic product to create shine from the inside out. Made with super food seed oils (broccoli, chia, cucumber, pumpkin, black raspberry, tomato, and cranberry) along with rosehip and abyssinian oils, this helps nourish hair, reduce frizz, and smooth the cuticles. It’s a super lightweight, silicone-free formula and can be used on all hair types.

Coconut Milk Conditioning Spray
I’m such a sucker for anything that smells like coconut! This lightweight product contains coconut oil, coconut fruit extract, macadamia extract and mango seed butter to help strengthen and hydrate your hair. It adds that extra boost of moisture along with detangling your hair.

Woodlot
Essential Oils Trio

This is another fantastic Vancouver based company. Woodlot Essential Oils are made with pure plant extracts. This set of three contains their best selling oils that are incredibly calming: Original, Cascadia, & Cinder.
$44 for the trio, $19 each

Dermalogica
Biolumin-C Eye Serum
I love a good eye cream, and this supercharged Vitamin C eye serum from Dermalogica is my new favourite. It’s a lightweight formula of Vitamin C complex. This helps brighten the eye area and reduces any fine lines. I really like the tube and applicator that this eye serum comes in to deliver the perfect dose. It contains chia seed oil, nutrient-dense tremella mushroom and micro-algae blend. This locks in moisture and boosts your skin’s natural luminosity.

Neostrata Restore
Bionic Oxygen Recovery
The restore collection from Neostrata has been receiving rave reviews. The latest product in the line to launch is the Bionic Oxygen Recovery. Think of this as an at home facial that delivers extra oxygen to your skin. It contains Polyhydroxy Acids. These PHAs help protect the skin’s moisture barrier, while providing exfoliation that is gentle enough to use on sensitive skin. When you apply it, you’ll start to feel it bubble as it oxygenates to create a soft foam. This will deliver an extra boost of oxygen to your skin making your face feel refreshed and radiant.
