After fashion, my next love is home decor. This began for me at a young age. I drove my parents crazy as a child constantly redesigning and reorganizing my bedroom furniture. I loved pulling tear sheets out of magazines and creating collages for inspiration. I have very fond memories of being in my grandfather’s wood shop; I would draw out ideas for a new chair, desk or bedside table, and he would sweetly create them for me.
When a new season rolls around, I like to created Pinterest boards on how I want to refresh our space. Like clothes, your home says so much about you, and finding new ways to be inspired is always wonderful.Whenever we travel, I always seek out where the best design locations are. While in New York, Cee and I visited Tom Dixon’s new showroom in Soho. The space is incredible, and filled with so many beautiful items, including these stunning light fixtures. The staff could not of been more friendlier, and pointed out some of their neighbour’s stores we had to stop by too. We had heard about Tom’s work through IDS Vancouver, where Tom will be a keynote speaker. IDS Vancouver is a show I’ve been attending for years, and is always a highlight on our fall calendar.
Held at the Vancouver Convention Centre, the weekend show is an ideal place to find home decor inspiration. And who doesn’t need a little home refresh before fall sets in? This year, there are more than just ideas to take home; at the opening night party, the first 2500 attendees will receive an Inform Favourites Party Gift Bag, a custom-designed, limited edition tote bag that was put together in a collaboration between IDS Vancouver, Inform Interiors and Intracorp. With three eye-catching designs available – by Ontwerpduo, Lindsey Hampton and Civilization – the totes won’t just be unique to the event; each one will contain a code, allowing the recipients to enter a for a chance to win a prize. And every bag will have a winner, a giveaway of this size has never happened before at IDS! The opening night party takes place this Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 7 to 11 pm, and I’ll be there with my cute tote on my shoulder.
If you’re in the Vancouver area, you can purchase advance tickets online for only $35 plus GST; they’re also available at the door for $40. IDS continues on September 24 and 25, just in case you won’t be able to make it for the opening night party fun; the centre point of the exhibits will be the Fire Kitchen by Tom Dixon (sponsored by Caesarstone) There will also be a pop-up shop on site, presented by Inform Interiors, featuring Tom’s latest designs and accessories.
If you’re interested in being at IDS Vancouver, be sure to stop by my instagram for a chance to win two complimentary tickets!
