Monika Hibbs Gives her Holiday Hosting & Décor Tips

The countdown to Christmas has officially begun! In anticipation of the most wonderful time of year, lifestyle blogger Monika Hibbs is telling us her tips & tricks for hosting a festive & fabulous holiday party this season.

STyle Calling 3No one loves the holidays more than I do. From decorating my home to entertaining friends and family – I love everything about this time of year. If you’ve followed me online (through my blog or on instagram) you might know that this year feels a bit different as my husband and I are currently building our new home. So for the time being we are living with family and feeling a bit “homeless”. Needless to say when MOSAIC HOMES contacted me to highlight my favorite styles in home décor and share my secrets to hosting – I was thrilled!

MH7I’ve added my signature holiday flare to three MOSAIC Home on display this month at FREMONT GREENFREMONT INDIGO, and YORK projects. I will be unveiling my MOSAIC holiday homes this Saturday, Nov 29th & next Saturday, Dec 6th and wanted to share a sneak peek.

Style Calling 2Festively Flocked Trees
If there is one show-stopping holiday investment I would recommend this season it is a flocked tree. I opt for the real thing to add fullness and holiday smell that you just can’t beat. For several years now I’ve used David Hunter Garden Centres to get my gorgeous trees. When it comes to the holidays you can’t beat the fresh, snow covered look of a flocked tree. And I find they make the perfect canvas for a wide range of decorating styles.   This year I’ve highlighted three distinctly different looks for a flocked tree.   For my first tree I incorporated natural aspects like magnolia leaves or neutral decorations. For my signature free I gravitated to the rustic and glamorous shades of white and gold. Finally, in design at YORK by Mosaic I drew on past experience from my first Christmas with my husband Troy. Using a pop of red to add a more masculine feel, I’ve incorporated accents of seasonal plaid with rustic fabrics like burlap.

Make Festive Cocktails Beautiful
This season I fell in love with copper; from mugs to serving platters to cocktail mixers. And what better to serve one of my all time favorite cocktails – the Moscow Mule- than in a chilled copper mug. To make it more seasonal add a spring of mint and a red and white straw. Spiked hot chocolate is also another favorite at my house. Combining rich hot chocolate with a peppermint liquor is a great way to serve a unique drink – and try adding a candy cane and some marshmallows for an festive pop.

Style CallingHighlight Your Homes Best Feature With A Holiday Vignette
Decorating your home for the holidays can be overwhelming. Instead of doing it all I try to focus on key areas of the home and create small seasonal vignettes. This can simply be a bookshelf that is cleared of its usual keepsakes and replaced with fresh holiday décor that adds a little freshness. I find entryways are another easy area to create a small holiday vignette with a favorite wreath and fresh winter greenery.

Style Calling 4Define a Table Scape
Whether you are hosting a dinner this season or not, there’s no reason you can’t dress your table with a seasonal table scape.   I like to use my table as the centerpiece to tie together my holiday theme. And as I have highlighted with my décor from the MOSAIC homes this year, that can be achieved in a few ways. For my “winter ale” theme I used craft beer as my inspiration drawing on the beautiful browns of the beer bottle and setting a masculine table with a few male essentials (beer and doughnuts). I also brought in plaid to warm the room and create a wintery/ festive feel.

MH4There are so many ways to celebrate the season in your home. I’d love to share and show you more of my ideas and invite you to join me this month. I will be talking holiday trends and serving some delicious snacks at the various Mosiac Homes this weekend. I would love to meet you!
