Style Calling is proud to present Summer Calling; a 4 part trend series focusing on key looks for your favourite activities during the summer season. We’ve partnered up with some of our favourite brands to bring you the ultimate style guide this summer.
Your parents give you a call and let you know that they’re wanting to go for brunch on Sunday. Then your mom drops a line and says, “can you please make an effort for us this time?” Sound familiar? For part three of our style series, we tackle the inevitable: dressing for brunch with the folks.
For the fellas, this can sometimes be a daunting task. We took a bit of inspiration from the Hampton’s and gave it some West Coast flavour. It’s as simple as a button-up shirt (remember to iron it,) paired with fitted slim-cut pants. The key to effortless style for the man on the go is wearing fitted, well tailored clothing. Even if the pieces aren’t bespoke, just taking the time and measuring yourself can make a world’s difference when you know your true size. This is also true for t-shirts as well. You could wear a t-shirt and jeans to brunch, just make sure it fits you. This is a skill that will take some time to development but once you have it down, it’s effortless.
For today’s style series, we focus on upgrading Sunday casual by pairing him in a monochromatic look. The stripes on the shirt break up the white and relaxes the look. Though the cardinal rule is to always match your belt to your shoes, we broke up the cool color tones by adding warmth with the brown woven belt; contrasting it with the suede loafers. If it’s been a while since you’ve seen your folks, clean up with a freshly shaved face and if timing permits – a quick trim. Don’t forget about sunscreen and moisturizer. Say it with me: hydrate.

For the ladies, we focus on fit as well. During the summer, we normally find ourselves turning to loose and flowing fabrics or cut offs and a t-shirt to keep cool. We take a turn away from casual but still keep things comfortable. If you look to your closet, it’s likely that you have a few silk tops and cotton shorts (or skirts.) It’s all about balance, to dress up the look you have to look at fabrication and color stories.
By pairing a plain white silk top with the purple cotton shorts – the look becomes summer appropriate – but still comfortable enough for you to go about your day. We finished the look with a rope metallic necklace from Banana Republic and fuchsia heels from Le Chateau. During the summer season, less is more for the Style Calling girl.
For Tea’s beauty look, we stuck to our accent color of fuchsia by applying a matching matte lipstick along with a neutral palette on her face with some blush, mascara and an emphasis on long lashes. We pulled her hair out of her face but kept it down and flowing with bouncing, voluminous curls.
