Style Trends for Spring Summer

Paris Louvre 5Every season, there are so many trends. New takes on classics, decade references, some fleeting styles and some that might stay a while. I’m a fashion girl at heart who loves to play dress up, so there are always things I want to try out.

I think the best way to navigate trends is to look at various references, and think about what you’re excited to wear. Create a mood board or collection of images of things you like. Check out the runway shows, Instagram, Pinterest and blogs to see what really speaks to you. Having a clear idea of what you’re looking to add to your wardrobe makes shopping easier too. That’s the fun part about fashion. Finding new ways to express yourself, be comfortable, stylish and purchase pieces that make you feel confident.

I’ve rounded up some of the key stories for Spring Summer and all the things I have my eye on this season. Accompanied by these lovely photos I took with Cindy at the Louvre on a sunny day in Paris. Bring on the sunshine!

While we were in Paris for Fashion Week the weather was unseasonably warm. I went shopping a few days before to find a cute Spring piece to mix in with my wardrobe. This snakeskin print knife pleated skirt was the winner. It touches on the animal print trend, but still feels neutral. I’ve ended up wearing this skirt so much already, and I know I will still love it come this Fall. It’s such a chic and easy style to wear with a pair of loafers or heels.

Straw Baskets
Straw bags and accessorize were popular last Summer, and I’m so excited to start rocking my straw bag again. There are so many styles on the market to choose from. For this season, we’re seeing a lot of mixed textures – leather and formal details paired with basket weaves. This is a great way to make your outfit immediately feel like Summer. I would suggest buying a medium size bag that can be your go to on the daily this season.

’90 Styled Accessories
We are looking back at the 90’s in a big way this season. This was such a great decade for style. It has many classic nods, and fun accents and many ways you can express your own take on the looks. We can really see the 90’s trend in accessories. Super strappy shoes and stacked up heels are back! Barrette and hair clips of all types. For purses, small rectangular bags like this Louis Vuitton pouchette are perfect for right now. Practical and chic!

White Mules
I love wearing mules this time of year. White shoes have been popular the last few seasons, and its a nice departure from black ones you already have in your wardrobe. Granted, white is not the most practical colour for shoes, but most summer shoes don’t last more than one or two seasons anyways. I love this pair from Sam Edelman and I’m lusting after the Gucci Princeton.

Neon Bright
Colour is back in many bright, highlighter shades. Neon is a fun statement to add in many pieces. Think about looking for a cute tshirt, light sweater or bright accessories. Not sure about this yet? Try a bright neon manicure. I just got a bright orange manicure and hot pink pedicure and I love it!

Tie Dyed
The free to be you and me, flower child tie dye style is back. A classic sign of care free summer time. DIY this yourself as a fun activity (there are lots of youtube tutorials) or check out your favourite store for their take on this trend. I love the pink and blue colour stories on t-shirts, sweaters and hats.

Beige
Beige is anything but boring this season. Head to toe beige was a big trend on the runways, and will be something we see into the Fall season. It’s neutral, so it goes with everything and is easy to wear. With so much bright colour and logo mania really hitting a high point, its nice to see a simple shade take off. Beige will continue into the fall, so invest in pieces you’ll have in your wardrobe for a while.
