Interview: Marque Thompson – The Luxury Home & Design Show

The Luxury Home & Design Show is taking place at the Vancouver Convention Centre over the weekend of 1 – 3 May. The beautiful showcase is an opportunity for existing and potential homeowners to meet and greet professionals and service companies involved in the bespoke home design industry of Vancouver. Sixteen of the West Coast’s top designers have come together with luxury brands to create a fully integrated 45,000 estate inside the Vancouver Convention Centre. There’s never been a spectacular event quite like this in Vancouver before.

We chatted with Marque Thompson, Principal of Design Marque to learn more about this spectacular event.

Why is Vancouver the ideal location for the Luxury Home & Design Show?
The Vancouver Convention Centre is really second to none in terms of its iconic Canadian architecture and spectacular setting. It is a true reflection of why many see Vancouver as a wonderful place to live and to build a dream home. Vancouver is also uniquely placed as a gateway of the Pacific Rim, so the concept of luxury from several cultures blends together.

Nothing they’ve ever seen before in this city! While the concept is one that the visitor should feel familiar with, this is still an estate home with myriad specialists, artists and builders who can help them create a unique home to specifications of their choosing.

Joy Chao of John Henshaw Architect is working with Robinson Lighting and bath to create a 400 square-foot master ensuite. She’s importing golden-hued wood floors from Stile in Italy and a Victoria & Albert bathtub — both of which have never before been seen on the West Coast of Canada. Sarah Gallop has teamed up with Caesarstone to create a West Coast-beach-themed contemporary kitchen and Formwerks Architectural will be showcasing Roche Bobois’ Mah Jong sofa, re-invented by fashion’s enfant terrible, Jean Paul Gaultier.

Which displays are you most excited about seeing at the show?
Apart from Design Marque!? One showcase I’m particularly interested in is Vancouver-based glass artist Peter Gorman, whose internationally renowned Chinoiserie and eglomisé panels take pride of place in the top luxury hotels in the world, form the largest mosaic ever to be created on a luxury cruise ship and will soon grace a royal palace in Dubai. He’s something of a hidden treasure.
