Beautiful British Columbia – it’s true! If you’ve ever visited BC, you know it’s one of the most spectacular parts of the world. I’ve lived in Canada for almost 15 years, but I had yet to visit Ucluelet and Tofino located on Vancouver Island. I was so excited to have the perfect excuse to finally visit when we were invited to attend my dear friend’s wedding. We had such a wonderful time exploring these quaint towns, that I’ve put together my guide of my favourite parts of our trip to share with you.
How to get there
Traveling to Tofino from Vancouver is a bit of a trek, but that is part of the magic of visiting. First you take the ferry, which is about 2 hours, before driving 3 hours to your final destination. The journey may be long but the scenery is absolutely picturesque and something you want to take your time with. The two towns are about 20 minutes apart, so it’s easy to visit both spots during your stay.Where to stay – Black Rock Resort
We stayed in Ucluelet at one the most beautiful ocean front hotels I’ve ever seen, Black Rock Resort. There are various chalets, that all had beautiful nature views of the Pacific Coast Trails. As soon as we arrived, we took a walk down to the beach to check out the stunning sights. Other than the scenery, my favourite part of the hotel was the fantastic restaurant, the private patio and the ah-mazing soaker tub. It’s luxury, meets West Coast casual. This is a popular honeymoon spot, and from the images above, I’m sure you can see why.
What to eat – Tacofino
Tacofino is a very popular group of restaurants that began in Tofino as a food truck. This is one of our favourite places to dine in Vancouver, and we were excited to visit the original spot. Parked in the back of a surf shop parking lot, you’ll quickly see the crowd gathered, patiently waiting their mouth watering Mexican food. Jonathon got the pulled pork burrito, while I opted for the vegetarian burrito. It was SO delicious, if we had more time, we would have visited again!
What to drink – The Tofitian
Located in the same surfers shop parking lot is the coffee shop, The Tofitian. It has a great local vibe, fantastic coffee, and a pretty epic sign out front. This is the perfect place to grab a quick coffee while you wait for your Tacofino. Ah I want to go back already!
What to drink – Tofino Brewing Company
On the top of Jonathon’s list was a visit to Tofino Brewing Company. Their focus is to brew great beer, be a positive addition to the town, and operating in a sustainable and locally focused manner. They have very interesting and unique brews like Spruce Tree Ale, that is actually brewed with Spruce tips, and Kelp Stout brewed with, you guessed it, local kelp! We brought a few bottles home and have been on the look out to find it locally in Vancouver. An absolute must stop if you’re a beer lover, and in the area.
What to see – Long Beach
This pristine beach is located between Ucluelet and Tofino. I wrote about our morning on Long Beach in my last style post, and it was such a wonderful morning. The beach stretches for miles, and is a haven for surfers. I felt so calm and relaxed while walking along the shoreline. There is a reason our province’s slogan is Super, Natural British Columbia. I hope you can one day travel to this slice of BC heaven too.
