The cold weather can be really harsh on your skin. Keeping it hydrated throughout winter can be a challenge, but with the help of some key products you can combat any dryness issues. A gentle cleanser, exfoliants, moisturizers and serums, here are my favourite items to keep my skin looking good throughout the chilly season.
Created in Iceland, BioEffect helps skin cells repair themselves. Recently launched in Canada, this incredible serum already has a major following in Europe. BioEffect is an anti aging product contains EGF: Epidermal Growth Factor, a substance which occurs naturally in your skin and has the ability to speed up the rate of cell turnover. The serum is created from barley, and only nine other ingredients. It feels like silky water when you apply a few drops in the evening. It took ten years to research and created this product, and two of the scientists won a Nobel Prize for their research. Needless to say, you won’t be disappointed in this serum. Available at Holt Renfrew.Lotion
This light lotion by La Prairie Skin Caviar Essence-In-Lotion is one of my favourites products to use in the morning before I moisturize. La Prairie products can have a very high price point, but this lotion is quite reasonably priced. You only need a tiny amount of this product that hydrates your skin and allows it to absorb more moisture. I’ve been using lotion since September and the bottle is still quite full. With daily use, I’m sure this bottle will last another 6 months. It’s well worth it for the results.Cleanser
My go to cleanser is by Dermalogica. The Essential Cleansing Lotion has a creamy consistency and doesn’t foam, but removes all makeup and impurities. My skin feels soft and fresh when I use it. Their ultra calming foaming cleanser is another favourite too.
The reason I’m such a fan of Dermalogica‘s products is for their gentle ingredients. Their Intense Moisture Balance is a very moisturizing cream that I like to use in the evening. It’s an ultra-rich antioxidant moisturizer with Vitamins C and E to help soften skin. In the morning, I use Tata Harper Clarifying Lotion. It helps soothe and calm the appearance of any redness. The lightweight formula has a matte finish so it’s perfect to wear under makeup.
Exfoliating your skin is one of the key steps in reducing dryness. Juice Beauty Resurfacing Microfoliant cleans your pores, removes dead skin cells, and let’s your skin absorb more water .Whether you have dry, normal, oily or sensitive skin, exfoliation can bring new life to your complexion. It also helps your make up go on smoother, which makes it a vital step in your skin care regime.
Lastly, dry lips are so annoying in the winter! If your lips are too dry, they can split which can be painful. I always have a Kiehls lip balm in my purse. Formulated with soothing emollients and Vitamin E, this balm will keep your lips soft and ready for lipstick!
